Division of Gastroenterology
Gastroenterologists at Yamaguchi University Hospital specialize in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disorders (e.g. cancers) of esophagus, stomach, small intestine and colon. For early cancers, we perform endoscopic treatment including mucosal resection and submucosal dissection and the outcome is favorable. Capsule endoscopy and double balloon endoscopy enabled to take images of the inside of the small intestine. We cover the treatment for inflammatory bowel diseases.
Division of Hepatology
Hospital’s experienced Hepatologists mainly perform diagnosis and treatment for viral hepatitis, metabolic syndrome related disease, liver cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinomas. We treat viral hepatitis using Nucleoside/nucleotide analogue and Direct acting antivirals (DAAs). We have developed liver regeneration therapies using autologous bone marrow cells (Autologous bone marrow infusion therapy, and Less invasive liver regeneration therapy using cultured bone marrow derived cells) for decompensated liver cirrhotic patients in our department, and then have been conducting them as clinical studies. Endoscopic injection sclerotherapy and interventional radiology procedures (BRTO and PSE) aggressively have been treated in patients with esophago-gastric varices and/or portosystemic shunt (PSS) associated with liver cirrhosis. In patients with hepatocellular carcinomas, diagnosis and treatment by updated imaging device have been provided. We perform all treatments but surgery and radiation therapy (radiofrequency ablation therapy, interventional radiology procedure e.g. TACE, molecular targeting drug, and hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy), and contribute the development of a novel treatment using iron-chelator (i-MM therapy).
Division of pancreaticobiliary tract
Our expert physicians perform diagnosis and therapy of bile duct stones, biliary cancers, obstructive jaundice, pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, and so on. We can do almost all advanced diagnoses and therapies, using endoscope, echoendoscope and double balloon endoscope. Our high skills of the endoscopic diagnosis and therapy in this field are world-famous. Many Japanese and foreign doctors have visited our center and learned our techniques. We also have been invited from many Japanese and foreign centers as expert endoscopists for live demonstrations.
