At the Department of Neuropsychiatry, we treat patients of all ages with various psychiatric disorders, such as anxiety and mood disorders, schizophrenia, mental disorders secondary to brain and/or physical disease, and others. In other words, we treat patients with mental or psychological impairment and/or brain function deficits. There is an increasing societal need for addressing the following psychiatric disorders: 1) pervasive developmental and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder; 2) depression and other mood disorders; 3) anxiety, panic, and somatoform disorders; and 4) behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia, e.g., aggression, agitation, delirium, and delusions. On the basis of establishment of essential doctor-patient relationships, we perform psychotherapy and family therapy for patients with psychiatric disorders, aiming to understand the psychological conflicts and mental environment of patients in the family, school, at work, and other environments. Furthermore, patients undergo brain magnetic resonance imaging, electroencephalography, near-infrared spectroscopy, and neuropsychological tests, as necessary. In addition, we provide evidence-based psychopharmacotherapy to patients.
In the Neuropsychiatry department, we apply electroconvulsive therapy to patients with pharmacotherapy-resistant mood disorders. Moreover, we actively treat patients with eating disorders, especially pediatric patients, employing family therapy. For outpatients, we have distinctive options for treatment: the branch of consultation-liaison psychiatry and the collaboration with the women’s health center of the hospital for women’s mental health.
