Hospital Introduction

A Message from the Director

To continue to provide safe, reliable, and better medical care

Thank you very much for visiting the Yamaguchi University Hospital website.
The hospital has a long history and tradition of development as a core hospital in Yamaguchi Prefecture. It has produced many talented people who have been active regionally, nationally, and internationally and has devoted itself to the development of medicine and health care and the nurture of health professionals. The University Hospital has three important missions: medical treatment, education, and research. To achieve these missions, the University Hospital has established the philosophy: to pursue and realize the health, reassurance, and welfare of each and every individual" and is committed to (1) providing safe, high-quality, patient-centered medical care, (2) respecting staff’s individuality and values and creating a work environment where staff feels reassured to demonstrate their abilities, (3) fostering excellent health professionals who have rich humanity and can play an active role in a variety of places, (4) continuing to pursue world-class, cutting-edge medical care, and (5) contributing to the realization of sustainable community healthcare.
The hospital currently has 756 beds, 30 departments, and 24 divisions. It is the only hospital with advanced treatment in Yamaguchi that can provide specialized and comprehensive treatment for diseases in all fields. Our "Advanced Emergency Medical Center" is the first center of that kind in all the national university hospitals in Japan to be approved for establishment. The hospital is central to Yamaguchi Prefecture's advanced emergency medical care system. It is designated as a base hospital in Yamaguchi Prefecture for cancer treatment, liver disease treatment, general perinatal medical center, allergic disease treatment, and disasters. The Center for AI System Medicine Research and Training Center was established in 2018, and research and development using artificial intelligence AI is underway with many medical departments, and medical care support using AI technology has begun.
As a new challenge, the Hospital is working to strengthen its medical treatment functions by creating a center that provides comprehensive treatment and care in close collaboration with professionals from different fields. Currently, the Allergy Center, Center for Reproductive Medicine, Center for Interventional Radiology, Diagnostic Radiology and Radiotherapy, Children's Medical Center, Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery, IBD Center, and Center of Cancer Care for Elderly Patients have begun providing care in collaboration with different departments. University Hospitals have a mission to develop excellent healthcare professionals with an eye to the future to protect people's lives and connections and realize a society where people can live with peace of mind. Yamaguchi University Hospital will continue to take on the challenge of aiming for better health care while flexibly responding to future societal changes.
Since 2015, the Hospital has been undergoing the second redevelopment project, the first for a national university hospital. A new ward building was opened in 2019, further enhancing our medical care system. The construction of an outpatient clinic building will begin in 2023. This project to strengthen the hospital's functions by 2025 will lay the foundation for providing highly advanced medical care in a sustainable and robust system. We are proceeding with the redevelopment while providing daily medical services, which will inconvenience you. Still, we hope for your understanding and cooperation.
Our mission is to serve as the "last bastion" of medical care in Yamaguchi Prefecture and to foster the "security" and "future" of local medical care. To realize this mission, it is most important to "continue to provide safe, reliable, and better medical care.” Aiming for high-quality and patient-centered medical care, all staff members are constantly working on activities to improve hospital functions continuously. Still, for Yamaguchi University Hospital to move forward into the future, we need your honest opinions, not only the perspectives from the medical side.

We look forward to your continued warm support.
